Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

Beacon Hill Seminars is a community of shared learning that welcomes active participants of any age from anywhere. All seminar leaders donate their time. Becoming a new member simply requires filling out the Membership Application form and sending it in with your course selections and fee. We invite you to join us.

  1. The spring term begins the first week in Februrary. In addition to receiving this catalogue, you may go to www.beaconhillseminars.org for course descriptions, biographies of group leaders and general information.

  2. Members may select three seminars in order of preference and an alternative course. Annual membership is $350; a single semester (either in the fall or spring) is $250.

  3. BHS membership is open to any person who is committed to continued learning, regardless of background, age or place of residence. The membership fee will be reduced for anyone requesting financial assistance. Please contact the executive director for information.

  4. Beacon Hill Seminars, Inc., is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization. Any contribution in excess of membership dues qualifies as a tax deduction. Contributions provide scholarships, as well as cover expenses not met by dues.

  5. Many classes have limited enrollment. If a class is oversubscribed, members will be chosen by a lottery after the registration deadline (January 8, 2010). You will receive a confirmation of your classes in mid to late September.

  6. Although frequent or multiple absences are discouraged, a participant is not required to attend every session of a BHS course. If you’re unable to attend a class, please let the group leader know. Many classes have waiting lists, and it is imperative that you let the executive director know if you cannot take a class that you’ve registered for.

  7. Most seminars meet on or around Beacon Hill.

  8. During inclement weather, BHS follows the school cancellation decisions of Boston Public Schools.
