The course addresses the fallacy of predictions, the tyranny of unintended consequences, and what can be done about these major uncertainties in our personal and vocational lives. It closely follows two books written by the instructor: The Fortune Sellers and Best Laid Plans. The first book assesses experts’ ability to make predictions regarding the weather, economy, stock market, technology, and other topics. The latter book explains why the world is so unpredictable and why our deeds so often produce unintended outcomes. More information on these two books can be found on the instructor’s website: williamsherden.com.
