Lyric Stage Company of Boston, 140 Clarendon Street

Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes to get to the exciting opening night of a great show? This course will offer a unique insight into the world of theatrical production. Using productions from The Lyric’s 2011-2012 season as examples, we will take the class on a theatrical journey from our decision to produce the play to opening night. We will talk about the collaboration between our respective positions and how the inherent “checks and balances” of each position affect the final production. Through the budgeting process, design, casting, rehearsals, and final dress rehearsal, we will cover every aspect of theatre production. A variety of company members, designers and production-team members will add their insight into the final production. Through discussion and questions we will also comment on the state of theatre in Boston and our predictions for its future. Readings will be assigned.
